Daniel and Anna live in a period property on the beautiful Dulwich Estate. They decided to replace their windows but a key requirement was to maintain the traditional character of the building. After we visited their home and assessed the work that needed to be done, they chose Timber Windows UK to undertake the work.

This was one of the most aesthetically challenging projects we’ve ever completed, for many reasons. Chief among them was that all of the new timber windows being installed had to match the originals, as well as adhere to the strict guidelines set by the Dulwich Estate Scheme of Management. These guidelines ensure that the original character of the property is preserved during renovation works and visual uniformity is maintained amongst the houses on the estate.

In total we installed 11 traditional box sash windows, 1 casement window and 1 flush casement bay window. Additionally, a request to replace an original stained glass window gave us the opportunity to showcase our heritage skills. We removed the existing stained glass using a special cutting technique which stops any damage, cleaned it, replaced any cracked pieces and then re-fitted it inside a new double glazed sealed unit. Finally antique black lead was applied, and the finished result perfectly showcases the original stained glass, while significantly improving the energy efficiency and security of the window unit.

Commenting on their new windows, Daniel and Anna observed: “From beginning to end, the service provided by Timber Windows was superb. In particular, we appreciated the attention to detail during the design process, the perfectionism of the workmanship and the exceptional quality of the finished product. The marriage of precision engineering and old-fashioned craftsmanship was a joy to witness and the beauty and comfort of our home has been greatly enhanced.”
